Thank you corona virus helpers

When the world first came to know of this contagion called corona virus a.k.a covid-19, no one took it seriously in the beginning. Some of them are not taking it seriously even today, sadly. The ill effects of this virus weren’t known explicitly, people continued to mingle. It was business as usual. Due to this very attitude, in no time we saw the entire world mapped in red and covid leaving no signs of retreat or surrender. It only continued to conquer & kill. By the time the world got the time to react, they realised they were short of the right equipment, PPE kits, hospital beds, enough staff to man the quarantine & treatment process. It is only now that the world has had an unified thinking that the virus had started spreading in January in China. This matter was kept under the carpet for a good three months out.

In India, under such trying times, some of us, the chosen ones, got up and took the fight to covid. An act of pure selflessness & display of character & grit. All healthcare/essential services/media/personnel, not to forget support staff like drivers, cleaners, online aggregator agents & last but not the least law & order personnel like police & the brave armed forces have not only put their lives on the line for us but also sacrificed family time & their own peace of mind. They are fighting continuously for us while we sit at home and wait for this war to get over.

It is appalling to see that given the context & the response, some miscreants, in different parts of the country had resorted to attack the very heroes fighting on our behalf. Just a month back we saw on news, now empty headed people threw stones at the police in U.P. Then last week, we saw how people are attacking doctors, nurses and other medical staff attending to identified covid patients. What is more hurtful that such acts are only used as precedents by other miscreants in other parts of the country. Who will take care of the situation if we lose the people who stand for us? What would happen if all these selfless personnel chose to just leave? The trouble makers surely don’t have an iota of aptitude or attitude to handle even viral fever, let alone corona virus. Then there are those fake news creators who churn out videos, stories to instigate others, an act of will-fully creating chaos & public damage. Both are punishable by law.

Naysayers are always outnumbered. We have seen that the way two days back the armed forces had organised several activities as a show of tribute to the frontline workers battling the novel corona virus outbreak. That coupled with how we have stood unified in celebrating our real life heroes is commendable. The fact that our frontline workers are performing so well can be seen by world statistics on this contagion. While US, Italy, Spain and China have been victims to this ghastly virus in masses, we as a 1.3 billion population country have managed well. Not only have we been able to keep the numbers low but we have also become an oasis in crisis by supplying necessary medicine across the globe. Total credit goes to our avengers, both with guns and without.

Thank you corona virus helpers for all that you do selflessly. The least we can do as responsible citizens is not undo what they have done by crowding in places to buy alcohol. By making sure that they receive a heroes welcome everyday they come back home after duty. We are in this together.
