How to realign your career after the pandemic

It is time to realign your career. Things have changed drastically in the post-pandemic world. People are realigning themselves to the apparent and avoidable “new normal”. Towering and well-crafted careers of individuals have toppled and how. Unfortunately, a lot of people are forced to rethink and redo their careers after the tsunami in their lives. The devastation has been so impactful that individuals need to now realign and re-access their whole lives. The ones who will resist change will perish and those adapting will flourish, in the long term.
So, the question does arise, how to realign your career after the pandemic? How to adapt in a way that helps to regain lost ground faster, with precision? While all may seem glum right now but moving one step forward at a time will set you for success. Here are the few ways to adjust and realign, to be relevant in today’s world.
Realign your career: focus on your core strengths
First of all, do not focus on reinventing the wheel. While it is good to go with a complete overhaul, it is also wise to start with what you have and know. Everyone has a go-to-market set of skills whether they have identified them or not. If you are one of those who do know then amplify your skills in the right direction.
Simply reach out to your entire network and share what you know and how you can bring value to the table. Be willing to take pay cuts, do extra work and demonstrate your skillset. If you do not know your go-to-market skill then simply start with what you are passionate about. Nothing and no one can beat passion – remember that core strength is a skill that has the following components – (ease + happiness) x passion.
Realign your career: build on something new
Necessity is truly the mother of invention. There are umpteen examples of people breaking big into something new and succeeding 10x than what they did before the pandemic. Undiscovered skills and new ventures can help you not only generate revenue for yourself but reap long term rewards like being a game-changer in society. In short, innovation = idea generation + consideration + testing.
Also, you can start by looking at new ventures where you need minimum investment but that which you can scale faster. Creating a customer value proposition is no mean feat and does take time to perfect but there is always a start. Start with separating the customer from his/her inner human being and learn to see from the eye of empathy.
Realign your career: What does the audience want?
While making these huge changes in your life, make sure that you keep the audience in mind and not yourself. Anything you do has to resonate with your target audience and only then they will validate your services or skills in the marketplace. Research what your audience wants, what their pain points are and how you can help them achieve their goals.
Once you have worked on your audience, now is the to realign yourself to the new normal. However, make sure that your personality, your skills and your brand message include your values, beliefs and principles. Unless you are one with your true self, you will not be able to sustain yourself in the new normal. Remember, to realign, follow this formula – Me (values x beliefs x principals)/ My offer (who + what + when + where + why)
Conclusion
To summarize, your success will solely depend on how you mould yourself to the new market, new customer, your skills set and your values. It has to be a balance between all of these factors to adapt to the new normal like a pro and to come out a champion.
